CULVER CITY, CA … Cadfab Creative is pleased to present PAINTINGS an exhibit of new work by artist Regina Argentin. Work from the past three years by the artist representing the fruit of thousands of hours of painterly labor will be on display. Argentin’s recent work has taken a decidedly classical turn from her popular abstractions she was known for in the middle of last decade. In this untitled series of paintings, she uses parts of nature, wildlife and the divine feminine to create an ethereal landscape of mythological dystopian symbolism.

This exhibition explores the dreamy area of our imagination occupied by what we know is real and what can only be the realm of the fantastic. With a crisp rendering style abutted by a luxurious, painterly touch, Argentin’s pictures deliver dreamscapes with the same misty precision that those brief but beautiful encounters assigned to human slumber are known for.

The work depicts animals and/or humans, shrouded and shaded, centered in the foreground but obfuscated as if they are but a hint of what is in the background. Argentin’s palette is straight out of a 19th century salon. One can imagine these pictures hanging in Madame Blavatsky’s salon and having mystical connotations that would take years of study to absorb. Argentin, though, is much more generous than scholarly mysticism and delights in each viewer arriving at their own narrative for the images in her work.

Art savvy viewers will see a connection to disparate influences from English Naturalism to the mystical penetrations of the jungle by Henri Rousseau to motifs more fitting to fantasy film and fiction. The exhibit is an artistic vision presented as a world unto itself, with one foot solidly representing our world in a realistic manner and the other posited deep in Argentin’s imagination.

The opening reception will begin Saturday May 8th from 1 – 8pm. The exhibit runs through May 29. Cadfab Creative is open Saturdays 10 AM – 4 PM and by appointment – (310) 876-1101.
